A
middle aged lonely business man encounters a gang of eastern European illegal immigrants
in Paris’s Gare du Nord, you understand that, he is gay and is extremely
lonely. In the vast expanse of people and playful, troubling gang of Eastern
Boys, he fixes his attention to a minor boy-Marek. When the minor boy offers
him everything in return of money, he is taken back. We too. How can he make
love with this boy? He must be a pedophile. I felt angry. But the scene is intense.
There’s a sense of reluctance, but Daniel gives
in. He gives his address and the supposed time for meeting. But the meeting
becomes a nightmare, when Daniel understands that,it was a trap. Whole gang of
eastern boys invades his home and loots him bare in the day light. He
helplessly watches and even dances to their tune. Charismatic leader of the
gang, Boss puts him in complete submission.
I started to feel sorry for the pedophile .I understood this
man can do nothing, but dance. He invited over a minor boy for sex. If reported,
there would be strange consequences to a man of his stature. I began to
understand him and the circumstances he was in. Daniel was totally terrorized by
the gang. The music and intertwining camera angles, lights and editing provide
a sense of urban terror. I prayed to end it and when it ended, you see the
lonely Daniel wakes up to an empty and totally damaged apartment.
But he looks serene. His life is back.
Days later, Marek returns to him with the same sexual promise
at his doors. He rejects him. But Markek says, he is alone. Their sexual exploits are
intense, but delicately portrayed. Daniel gives him fifty Euros for his
services. Later a set rate and then,it slowly moves to something else. Daniel
loves that boy .His desire is carnal. He wants to meet him as much as possible.
But then, the circumstances of the boy and the innocence that’s revealed in
full throttle change him. We see him changing. We see the carnal emotions in
him ,slowly changes to paternal. It
breaks your heart, when he explains it to the confused boy, what he intends to
do for him.
Last part of the story takes up the mode of thriller. But its
still gripping and thoughtful. Movie never takes sides. It never ceases to be sympathetic
towards the eastern boys.It never shows in the negative lights.Even when it all
turn negative, their circumstances are immediately cited to
clean them.
Eastern Boys is strong, gripping and provoking. Please see
it. Unpredictability of the plot will glue to your seats. Equally it will get
you close to the humanity and the pervasive power of its ways. Robin
Campillo did a wonderful job and so are
the excellent caste…Excellent cinematography.
See it…
